Layers of Light.

Photographs by Dag Alveng. Texts by numerous contributors.
Ex Libris, New York, 1995. 126 pp., 74 black-and-white illustrations, 10½x12½".

This book is the first major collection of Dag Alveng's photographs. Known for his photographs of an asylum taken secretly while he was a security guard, Alveng's images focus on the traces we leave on the ordinary world. Scarred walls, a stained floor, a worn chair--all of these objects bear the effects of everyday life, evoking reactions which are as much imagination as observation. The powerful images of this book are exquisitely reproduced in quadratone black-and-white.
