High on New York.

Photographs by Peter B. Kaplan. Introduction by Paul Goldberger. Captions by Kaplan and Thomas E. Norton.
Harry N. Abrams, New York, 1986. 128 pp., 9x12".

Kaplan's speciality is photographing Manhattan from its highest peaks--the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, the Statue of Liberty--capturing the grandeur and mystery of the "city of skyscrapers." His photographs have appeared in magazines such as Life, Newsweek, and Popular Photography, and in books such as the Time-Life Great Cities of the World. Some of his refreshing viewpoints include close-ups of one of the gargoyles on top of the Chrysler Building, a Macy's Day Parade Superman balloon from above, and workers gilding sculptural details on the tip of the Crown Building.
